DETROIT – Happy Friday!
A great storm that crosses our country will arrive tonight in Metro Detroit. Until then, it will be a warmer and warmer day than we have seen all week.
Temperatures start in the mid to upper 30s with a fairly light wind heading out this morning. The skies are mostly cloudy, and that will be the case throughout the day, but the chances of rain are slim. Still, keep that umbrella handy just in case.
Today’s sunrise is 7:51 am
Today we will have a mostly cloudy and mostly dry day around the Detroit metropolitan area. The highs will reach the middle 40 and above.
There may be a light shower or brief splashes during the afternoon. The lighter winds will move from SW to SE at 5-10 mph.
Everything changes when the great winter storm arrives tonight. Temperatures will continue to rise late today and overnight. Wet weather will be in the form of late-night and overnight rain, and snow will be more likely and problematic in parts of central and lower northern Michigan tonight and tomorrow.

Strong wind watch Saturday
The National Weather Service has issued a strong wind watch on saturday for all of southeastern Michigan and southern Ontario. The winds will be windy and gusty through Friday night, with most of the rain coming in. The heaviest winds will pick up after rain cuts through the Detroit metro area on Saturday morning.
Some parts of the Detroit metro area can receive about two inches of rain, and that could cause some flooding problems as the ground turns cold and hard.
Saturday temperatures will start in the early 50s and then drop during the day.
Watch for the winds tomorrow which will move SW at 15-30 mph, gusting to 40-60 mph at times. Peak winds will likely hit us Saturday afternoon and could cause some sporadic power outages (gusts of wind will be able to knock down tree limbs and power lines). Be very careful. Even traveling tomorrow will be difficult with debris and gusts of wind impacting high-profile vehicles.
