Former 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg allegedly turned down an offer from Leonardo DiCaprio to assist with debate preparations after not recognizing the Hollywood actor.

At an exclusive 2019 fundraiser for Buttigieg’s run for presidency, DiCaprio offered Buttigieg ‘private coaching sessions’ prior to a national debate, former senior communications advisor for Buttigieg, Lis Smith, told TMZ.

At the event, DiCaprio expressed his support for Buttigieg, who is now US Transport Secretary.

But the former presidential candidate failed to realize the opportunity due to his lack of pop culture knowledge and inability to comprehend the weight of DiCaprio’s offer.

the titanica actor reportedly told Buttigieg he would help improve his speaking style to better his delivery at the debate.

Smith claimed she was thrilled with the offer but was distracted when learning Buttigieg failed to get DiCaprio’s number.

While Smith claims Buttigieg appreciated the support of the many celebrities and the millions of dollars they donated to his campaign, he didn’t recognize many of their famous faces at his fundraiser.

The duo met at a Los Angeles mansion alongside other well-known stars, including Katy Perry and Paris Hilton.

Paris shared a snap of herself with Buttigieg that night, although DiCaprio wasn’t visible in the shot.

Buttigieg announced his run for presidency in January 2019 while he was serving as mayor of South Bend, Ind.

He was the first openly gay candidate to contend for presidency. During his run for office he promised to unite Democrats, independents, and moderate Republican voters.

His campaign quickly picked up momentum but he struggled to advance as he finished in fourth-place in the South Carolina primary.

Buttieg held an impromptu event following the primary race in his hometown on South Bend to announce his campaign suspension in March 2020.

The former Afghanistan veteran was nominated to serve as US Secretary of Transportation in 2021.

DailyMail.com reached out to Buttigieg’s office for a comment, but haven’t received a response.
