Karnataka, Bengaluru News Updates: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and discussed key issues of Karnataka including the state’s pending GST share and irrigation projects. According to the Chief Minister’s office, Bommai also met BJP President JP Nadda and is likely to meet Home Minister Amit Shah during his two-day visit to the national capital. According to BJP sources, Bommai is likely to discuss the state cabinet expansion as the BJP government in the state enters its final lap before the upcoming Assembly polls in April 2023.

Meanwhile, more than four years after journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead by motorcycle-borne men outside her house here, the trial in the case is set to start on May 27, the prosecution lawyer said. “The hearing of the case had not started yet. It will start now from May 27,” senior advocate S Balan told PTI.

In other news, mosques in Karnataka have started receiving notices from the police to use their loudspeakers within the permissible decibel levels. The move comes after some right-wing outfits launched a campaign demanding shutting down of such loudspeakers, saying they caused disturbance for people living in surrounding areas. In Bengaluru alone, about 250 mosques have received such notices and the mosque authorities have started installing devices that keep the sound within the permissible level, sources said.
