What are the Golden Globes doing after a year of scandals so severe that NBC dropped the broadcast?
They tweet through it.
Tonight, members of the beleaguered Hollywood Foreign Press Association are announcing this year’s Golden Globe winners, but they are reading those names in a ballroom at the starless Beverly Hilton. tweeting and live blog the results in real time.
It’s an impressive demotion for the group that used to put on one of the most ostentatious award shows in Hollywood. But after investigations by the Los Angeles Times and New York Times revealed a series of ethical flaws within the HFPA and a membership devoid of black voters, major Hollywood advertising firms cut off the show’s access to the stars.
The HFPA has since announced a new list of rules and admitted 21 new members, including journalists of color, but it remains to be seen if Hollywood will recognize tonight’s ceremony or if stars hoping for a victory will pretend nothing happened.
The list of winners is then updated as they are announced.
