Girls in the movie
James Bond could soon be using his / her pronouns on the big screen, at least according to the woman who is co-owner of the rights to the franchise, and she doesn’t rule out the possibility.
Producer Barbara Broccoli – who controls everything related to Bond through his film company, Eon Productions, along with his brother – did an interview with Anna smith of the “Girls in the movie“podcast … and the debate about Bond being a woman was raised once again.
Smith asked him if he still felt that JB needed to be a man in the future, and Broccoli said yes again. He reiterated his point of not forcing a gender change for characters that are traditionally male (like Bond) and said that the new ones should simply be written for women.
So … a curve ball. Smith asked if Bond could, perhaps, be non-binary … and Broccoli did not dismiss the idea entirely. She replied, “Who knows, I think it’s open, you know? We just have to find the right actor.”
To be frank, it doesn’t seem like Broccoli was enthusiastic about the idea, and she had said it just before … she thinks Bond will be a man in the future. Still, it’s interesting that he even entertained the idea.
One thing he did say 007 could be … a POC. She just wants Bond to be British and have XY chromosomes. Everything else about the character, it seems, is open to discussion.
Of course, many are hearing this news about a possible non-binary link … and groaning. Meanwhile, others think it’s pretty cool that this old-time character could adapt to the times.
