The New Orleans-based Audubon Nature Institute tweeted that White was ‘a conservationist, an advocate for animals and a friend’ in remembering the late Golden Girls star.

“After Hurricane Katrina, a private plane was chartered to transport the sea otters and penguins from the Audubon Aquarium to the Monterey Bay Aquarium,” the spokesperson said. Audubon didn’t find out until after the trip that Betty White had paid for a portion of the trip.
The group described White as “a great animal advocate and conservationist” who “just wanted to help out however she could,” adding: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of a true friend.”
